Two things that have always interested me are steganography and digital art. This simple piece combines the two using a Bacon’s cipher of the four seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter.
Conveniently, all the seasons have 6 letters, which lets us get a nice balanced and symmetrical result. Running these words through the cipher yields:
- Spring: BAAAB ABBBA BAAAA ABAAA ABBAA AABBA
- Summer: BAAAB BAABB ABABB ABABB AABAA BAAAA
- Autumn: AAAAA BAABB BAABA BAABB ABABB ABBAA
- Winter: BABAA ABAAA ABBAA BAABA AABAA BAAAA
I finished “the piece” by choosing two emojis for each season and assigning one to A and one to B and then laying out the quintuplets in a grid.
